With everybody jumping on Windows 10 because of the free upgrade offered to most people from Windows 8 or 8.1, we are seeing a lot of people asking us how to make their Windows 10 computer faster.

Windows 10 is not for everybody.

Some people are seeing little to no wifi, other no sound. And a lot of people are having no problems at all.

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 and don’t like it because of how it performs or looks, a lot of the time you can go back to your previous operating system.

For those who like Windows 10 or would like to stick with it a bit longer, here are a few tips to make in run a little faster.

 

Fixing or remove start up items

If you have done a complete full install of Windows 10 from scratch you probably wont have this problem. But for those who have already been using their computer and had a lot of programs already installed on it before they upgraded, this will probably help you.

Just about every time you install a new program, the applications will be designed to want your attention and be ready for when you needed it. It does this by putting a shortcut to itself in a start up area of your computer so it will be ready and running already for you when you want it.

This sounds great in theory but with all these programs running in the background, even when you don’t want to use them or starting up automatically it can slow your computer down significantly.

The best thing you can do is turn the ones off from starting up you don’t really use, or use often.

A simple Control Alt Delete will present you with some option such as a startup list where you can choose what you want and don’t want to start up.

Most of the applications are not essential to the running of your computer. But be warned turning off the wrong thing can present security risks such as no Windows updates or your antivirus not running.

Clean your disk and do some maintenance

There are two great ways to do this. One is built into Windows 10 and the other is a free program you can download.

The first is CCleaner. CCleaner is free and does not remove viruses but what it does is clean files and directories that you no longer need and where malicious files and programs can hide.

There is also extra functionality in it that helps you uninstall programs on your computer the built in program file removal tool can not.

The second is Microsofts built in Disk Cleaning Utility.

By right clicking on the drive on your computer you a re concerned with and clicking on properties you will see the “Disk Cleanup” tab and choose your options.
