Reasons to love Linux

You can use older hardware

Unlike Microsoft Windows which with every upgrade slows your computer down if you do not have later hardware, with Linux its not so much an issue.

A lot of people use Linux by command line but even as it is making its way into the desktop arena, with every update or upgrade the impact on your existing hardware in very small.

Part of this is due to the control you have of the Linux operating system where you can install and configure it to use only the components you think you will need. You do not have to install the whole Linux operating system and all of its features.

It’s Free

Linux is open source and free. Some Linux distributions provide supported versions which are identical to it’s unsupported versions like Redhat and Centos, where you can pay to call someone up for help.

But other than that Linux is completely free and very well supported by the open source community. You can pretty much Google any problems you have with it and find the answers online in the forums.

At this current time Ubuntu is the biggest and most widely used Linux operating system and as so, pretty much any Linux questions you type into a search engine online will yield a Ubuntu related answer online.

More Security

Linux is very module based and built based on the Unix operating system.

Unix has been around a long time and was designed for multiuser systems. From this security was essential to protect the system and users form one another and Linux has adopted these same practices whether it is in their server or desktop environment.

Linux is a much smaller user base than Windows so of course there are a lot less viruses and spyware designed to effect Linux systems.

But even when viruses are discovered with the huge developer base of open code programmers constantly writing programs and developments for Linux, the infections are usually patched and updated very quickly.

Linux is very stable

What I really love about Linux is other than having to add or remove hardware and physical components on a computer, you never have to restart it. Even after updating your Linux computer it wont even ask you to reboot your computer, Pretty much all services can be restarted and reloaded without having to shutdown and restart.

This is why Linux is perfect for small to medium sized business and servers. Somewhere in an office and an environments where it is steadily relied on and crucial to never go down, Linux is the perfect solution. I have a couple of Linux computers which I don’t think have even crashed, not needed to be restarted.

Hence why they are prefect for servers!
